Top 10 Rainy Day Activities in NSB (listed alphabetically)

  • AMC Classic New Smyrna – catch a movie. Our local theater has 12 screens, all of the latest releases, and some of the cheapest ticket prices in Florida. The lines which are combined for tickets and concessions can get quite long. Plan your time accordingly.
  • Atlantic Center for the Arts – An artist residency perched amidst a huge envirmonmental reserve on the edge of the old Turnbull Colony. Events are seasonal, but most days you can find artist exhibitions. Check their website first becasue it is a bit of a hike to get there. Atlantic Center for the Arts
  • The Hub on Canal – Another treat for art lovers and there’s always something going on. Art is their main focus, but you can also get your yoga fix and take ukelele lessons here. Check their schedule to make sure the current events float your boat: The Hub on Canal.
  • Marine Discovery Center – this place is a gift for NSB denizens who care about wildlife and the environment. They do plenty of cool eco tours outdoors, but on a rainy day, you can still have some free fun indoors. They have nice aquariums, a touch tank and Florida-centric eco-exhibits.
  • Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum – A little treasure in the historic West Side area. The free museum sits in a wonderful 120 year-old former church. The building is jam packed with interesting artifacts and little known history of African Americans in NSB and the local areas. (Free)
  • New Smyrna Beach Brewing Company – NSB’s first taproom recently moved to a cool space on Canal St. where the brewery has a great vibe and killer brews. If they aren’t busy, one of the staff members may give you a little lesson about the magic taking place in the nearby tanks. They also have an old-school tabletop shuffleboard game.
  • New Smyrna Lanes – It’s been a New Smyrna fixture for nearly 60 years. The bowling center features 16 lanes of affordable family fun. It’s on the North Causeway, half way between Flagler and Canal.
  • New Smyrna Museum of History – This is one of our favorite NSB attractions. If you love history, the old post office building is packed with NSB stories, photos and exhibits. The story, starting with the founding of Florida’s second oldest city, is quite compelling. Walk through the doors and get lost for a few hours. Pure awesomeness and it is free.
  • NSB Escape Room – They are open every afternoon and evening and are one of NSB’s coolest attractions. Bring a group, or join up with others on unique, creative scavenger hunts, where you need to solve a diverse set of puzzles to escape. Read our review here: NSB Escape Room.
  • Volusia County Public Library – They have books, audio books and DVDs, as you would expect. Surprisingly, they also have a slew of other events. Book clubs, technology lessons, kids’ activities, movie screenings and ballromm dancing are among the many offerings. Check out their calendar here: NSB Library.
