Third Wave – Tasteful Ambiance
Just steps off of the vibrant Flagler Avenue scene sits one of New Smyrna Beach’s most relaxing settings. You enter Third Wave Cafe and Bar through a rustic arch and serene tropical walkway. What awaits is a pleasure for the senses… and the taste buds.
Third Wave is a garden escape featuring ancient native trees, bamboos, home-grown spices, torches, water features and one of the most distinctive bars in the area. It’s a wonderful retreat whether you are headed out for dinner, tapas or just a few drinks.
We had visited a few previous times for drinks and appetizers, but over the weekend, we decided to try out their full dinner menu. Local chef Dave Moscoso has been teasing us with tasty Instagram shots that left us savoring some delicious local food. The menu features locally sourced, sustainable ingredients and some very creative offerings.
We started off with an order of escargot. The seven Roma snails were served in shell with a nicely-sized baguette. Excellent.
My wife chose one of their wood-fired pizzas. The Fungi Fromage featured a heaping of wild mushrooms sitting in a cheesy sauce. The Third Wave pizzas are always solid and today’s serving did not disappoint.
On this night, the highlight of the meal was the daily special, Atlantic Sheepshead. The flaky fish is a rare find on local menus, and it is delicious. It was served over a scrumptious bed of bomba rice and topped with a fantastically creative sauce. The delectable Tuscan lemon cream sauce was served over heirloom tomatoes and wilted spinach. Absolute perfection!
Bottom Line
Third Wave Cafe offers creative food at a fair price. Good service and a great atmosphere. We highly recommend a dinner visit or drinks any time.

- If they are on a wait, see if there are any seats at the bar. It is a cool bar with a great vibe, and you can sample the full menu there.
- If the bar is crowded and you are on a wait, slip inside and order a drink there. It is a much quicker option and all items are available inside.
