Fourth of July on the Beach

NSB’s Non-traditional Fireworks Display Continues to Astound

New Smyrna Beach puts on an impressive evening of fireworks and related events each year on the water at Riverside Park.  This year was no different, as thousands flocked to the Intracoastal park for the show and related festivities, including gourmet food trucks and live music.  But, there were many thousands of Beachside denizens who skipped the sometimes agonizing trip over the causeways for a little bit of their own fun on the beach.

We chose to hang out Beachside, and were happy that we did.  No traffic, no parking challenges and no bugs – just a short walk to the beach for an always memorable impromptu show.  We wandered out around 8:30 and found a spot near the 27th Avenue Park.  We rolled out our blanket and settled in for some fun – we may have even brought along an adult beverage or two…

The beach was packed as far as we could see in either direction – almost as crowded as it was during the glorious, sunny afternoon.  Around 8:45, the first fireworks arrived, and 15 minutes later, we were whipping our heads from North to South, as we were surrounded by fireworks as far as we could see in either direction.  The fun lasted for a solid hour and the quality was pretty damn impressive for a little neighborhood get-together with thousands of your closest friends.

The pictures don’t do the fireworks justice, but give a small taste of the fun vibe.  I’d highly recommend checking it out next year.
